GREENVILLE, Calif. — Plumas County solicited architectural and engineering firms in fall 2026 for a new phase of Greenville’s recovery: evaluating how to rebuild public buildings lost in the 2021 Dixie Fire. The county’s September Request for Qualifications sought a licensed California architect or firm to examine replacement facilities for the community. After two addenda, the deadline was extended to October 13, 2026, and has now passed.
What the county asked firms to study
The county describes the loss of Greenville’s town hall, public library and sheriff’s substation. Its scope of services calls for evaluating stand-alone and shared facilities that could accommodate library and educational functions, recreation, community meeting space, public safety and related activities. Possible amenities include a community kitchen or indoor gathering areas, subject to planning and finances.
The requested professional services include site evaluation, comparing design alternatives, preparing permit-ready drawings and minimizing change orders in any later construction. The solicitation itself is not proof that a construction contract has been awarded or that a new library has opened. Plumas County’s bid archive marks the architect RFQ closed, but the public listing reviewed for this report does not confirm a final design or selected contractor.
Why Greenville residents should follow the next decision
Greenville continues recovering from the wildfire’s destruction of civic services. Rebuilding as a shared campus or separate buildings could change where residents access library materials, community programs and public offices. Key outstanding questions are location, capital funding, accessibility, management and a realistic opening schedule.
Residents can review the official bid and addenda, then monitor Board of Supervisors agendas and county facilities updates for the next formal procurement decision. The county has not announced a guaranteed completion date in the RFQ listing.
